I headed back down to Garmisch this past week for the DISA-Europe Leadership Conference. We took a group hike to the Partnatch Gorge, and it was great. But something that I didn't expect was a bit of musical entertainment at the end. It turns out that the proprietor could also belt out a mean YODEL!! Here he is below...

Ray and Patty's Visit in Hawaii
Ray and Patty visited us when we were in Hawaii in June 2004. As I was browsing video clips for another project, I came across the video that I made for them. It was my very first attempt with Windows Movie Maker, so it's not particularly sophisticated. I'm looking forward to when they will come out to visit us Germany after we PCS next year!

Farewell Ft Kam!
Saying goodbye is so hard to do at times. We loved our house on the beach in Ft. Kam, but even more so were the wonderful neighbors that we had there.

Heidelberg
We visited Heidelberg [Wikipedia Article], about 1.5 hours North of Stuttgart, and spent most of the time at it's #1 feature, the old castle ruins.

Ulm
Home to the world's tallest church spire, we had to go take a look at it. Unfortunately, the only one that wanted to go with me to the top of the spire was Matthew. Ulm [Wikipedia entry] is also Albert Einsten's birthplace. We didn't find his childhood home this time around, but I know we'll be back!

Burg Teck
I took Matthew and Daniel up to Burg Teck [Wikipedia entry] on 22 Jul. As usual, they were moaning "Not another castle!" but before we left, they were asking when we could go back! It's only about 30 minutes from Stuttgart. While you can't get too close on public roads, the trail up to the burg is pleasantly shaded and took about another 20 mintues. Under the base of the castle is a small cave that, while very small and simple, was quite cool. Not too often you have a cave with such a view. :) The image above is from the top of the tower, looking North with Stuttgart in the distance. A mere half Euro will get you up to the top to enjoy the spectacular view from up there. From there, if the air quality is good, I'm told you can see some of the alps. More closely, you can see the ruins of Burg Hohen Neuffen off to the west, even if the air isn't that good. There is a typical German cantina there serving the obligitory Beer and Wurst, but also have a more refined resturant there, where you can also enjoy the splendid view as well.
