I took Matthew and Daniel up to Burg Teck [Wikipedia entry] on 22 Jul. As usual, they were moaning "Not another castle!" but before we left, they were asking when we could go back! It's only about 30 minutes from Stuttgart. While you can't get too close on public roads, the trail up to the burg is pleasantly shaded and took about another 20 mintues. Under the base of the castle is a small cave that, while very small and simple, was quite cool. Not too often you have a cave with such a view. :) The image above is from the top of the tower, looking North with Stuttgart in the distance. A mere half Euro will get you up to the top to enjoy the spectacular view from up there. From there, if the air quality is good, I'm told you can see some of the alps. More closely, you can see the ruins of Burg Hohen Neuffen off to the west, even if the air isn't that good. There is a typical German cantina there serving the obligitory Beer and Wurst, but also have a more refined resturant there, where you can also enjoy the splendid view as well.
